Part two of "Rain"

Hello everyone I'm back here's the next part sorry it took so long been busy. Thank you to all who have reveiwed so for the reveiws are candy to my soul. Alright now on with the show.

Derek slowly made his way towards the bullpen not really paying much attention as to where he was going; only when he caught sight of Kevin Lynch with a box in his arms did he really pay attention. A frown graced his handsome features as he watched the tech slowly walk down the hall as if he was trying to take everything in.

Without thinking about it Derek called out, “Is something wrong Lynch you look lost?”

Kevin’s head snapped up to stare right out Derek at first not understand why he was still there, then the question caught him a little off guard. Why would Derek Morgan, of all people want to know about his well fair?

“Nothing’s wrong Morgan just taking one last look around.”

Another frown, “Last look around?” he asked puzzled by the answer, “Are you going somewhere?”

Kevin just looked at him, not sure on what to say, so he settled for the truth, “As a matter of fact I am, got a job offer in California to head up the Tech department for the FBI.”

“Congratulations man I wish you luck,” Derek offered then a though occurred to him and he asked the question before he could stop himself, “so then is Penelope going with you?”

Derek wasn’t sure if he wanted to know the answer it would kill any hope he had left for them. Granted they hadn’t spoken much over the last year, their once tight friendship had dwindled to just talk about work at work. Something that Derek cursed himself for. Even though he wouldn’t admit it to anyone he missed they flirty banter, the nights they’d spend together after a terrible case just the two of them. But he knew he had to back off for Penelope’s sake so she could have a chance at happiness and now it seemed that she would be leaving him without even so much as a goodbye.

Kevin’s voice broke him out of his thoughts, “Uh no she’s staying here. We, I thought it best if we didn’t continue the relationship after I left. Long distance relationships never work out and I didn’t want to put Pen through that.”

Derek just nodded relief flooding his body, “Well I need to you know finish some paperwork have a nice life Kevin.”

Kevin watched him walk away discussed by the lack luster reaction from Derek. He had thought the profiler would have at least gone to Penelope to see how she was, to offer some kind of support. They had been and for all tens and purposes were still best friend’s. Kevin had figured out not to long ago that Derek held stronger feelings for Penelope than he was willing to admit to anyone even himself.

Kevin had always known that Penelope was in love with Derek, yet she held that little piece of information very close to her heart if Kevin hadn’t been as close to her as he was he’d never have seen it. At first the thought made him a little jealous, but in the end he knew that he would never be able to change Penelope’s heart. That was why he had took the job in California and broke it off with her in the hopes that one of them would finally man up and admit their true feelings.

And now as he watched Derek walk towards the BAU bullpen he realized that that may never happen if someone didn’t help him pull his head out of his ass long enough to see what was around him. Gathering his courage, Kevin purposely walked towards the glass door hell bent on giving one Derek Morgan a piece of his mind.

She drove around for awhile not sure where she would head. She knew home was out of the question right now she didn’t want to be alone in that apartment. Before she knew it Penelope pulled into a parking spot at the hospital, got out and made her way up stairs.

Her first stop was Reid just to check up on her boy genius to see for herself how he was fairing.

Knocked softly she waited until she heard the low “Come in” before pushing the door open, plastering a smile and her face and greeting Spencer. She took in his pale face; IV’s hooked up with antibiotics, leg wrapped with gauze where the bullet went through flesh, and propped up on a pillow to alleviate pressure. To her he looked worst than it was.

“How are you feeling sugar?” Penelope asked taking the only available seat next to the bed.

“Like shit,” came the blunt response, his voice scratchy from the pain.

Penelope let out a laugh, “Glad your sense of humor wasn’t affected Reid.” She took his hand in hers needing to remind herself that he was alive and not a body down in the cold dark morgue. “Seriously though how are you really?”

“Not too bad, hurts like hell though,” Spencer replied giving Garcia’s hand a slight squeeze, “You know we’re both fine Garcia a little was for the wear but still in once piece.”

Penelope nodded unsure of what to say. They remained silent for a bit before Penelope finally spoke, “Just don’t make a habit out of getting shot I don’t think I could handle it.”

“I’ll try not to Penelope,” Spencer smiled, “so have you gone to see Hotch, yet?”

“No” she shook her head, “You were the first stop.”

Spencer could see that something else was bothering her, but he didn’t want to push, of course no one could ever say that Spencer Reid lead with tacked. That being said he plowed ahead and asked, “Garcia is something wrong?”

“You know…” Penelope began a ghost of a smile on her face.

“You really hate profiler’s.” Reid finished for her, his own smile lighting his features. “Yes I know, but seriously Penelope has something happened?”

Shaking her head, blonde curls bounce around her, obscuring her face from his eyes, “No and yes Spencer. Just… you don’t worry about it ok. Just get better, I’ll see you later. I’m going to see Hotch before I leave.”

Spencer kept her hand in his, eyes searching, “I know I’m not good at this, but if you need to talk I’ll be here, it’s not like I’m going anywhere, but if you need me…” he trailed off letting the invitation hang in the air.

“Thanks Spence,” Penelope returned giving his hand a squeeze before letting go and walking away.

A few minutes later and two floors up Penelope came to a stop at Hotch’s door. As with Spencer she took in the fact that he looked pale. His face showed only slight signs that their fearless leader was in pain and conscious. Unlike with Spencer, she couldn’t see the bandages that held Hotch together, only the IV tubes, blood pressure cuff and various wires monitoring his health could be seen.

“Are you just going to stand there Garcia or are you coming in,” came Hotch’s gravelly voice.

Slowly she walked forward up sure of what to say or where to look. “How are you feeling sir?”

“Like shit,” came his response.

“Reid said the same thing. You two connected somehow,” Penelope said glancing towards Hotch.

A slight shake of the head was all she got. Penelope took the seat next to his bed and folded her hands in her lap unsure of what to say again. With Reid it was easier but Hotch well she was at a lost.

“Penelope,” Hotch began waiting for her to look at him, “I know from Emily that for a while you were trapped between searching for me and helping the rest of the team. That you were the only one who knew what was going on, on both sides. I… thank you for finding me.”

Tears threatened to fall as she pushed them back and answered, “No thanks necessary sir I would have done it for any member of the team, were family.”

“Then don’t you think you should at least call me Hotch while I’m in this God forsaken place,” he said gaining a smile from Penelope.

But she saw the sadness that underlined everything, the worry that he would never again get to see his son grow up. Without a second thought she took his hand in hers, “Will find Foyet and bring his sick ass to justice Hotch. You will get to see your son grow up. We will never stop fighting until that happens.”

Hotch nodded. He knew she was right but right now he couldn’t bring himself to believe that it would happen. The what if’s ate away at him something that was new to him. He could feel himself start to drift off as he watched Penelope stand.

She noticed that Hotch was starting to fall sleep so she rose, “You get some rest Hotch I’ll come back by tomorrow. Try to take it easy and don’t give these lovely nurse’s too much trouble.”

He nodded and watched as she turned to go only to turn around and give him one last smile, saying “Family helps one another no matter the cost,” and she was gone.

New fic "Rain"

A new short kind of story, takes place a little after Nameless and Faceless.
Disclamer: dont own a damn thing sad i know

Dark rain

Dark rain heavy cloud’s covered the sun obscuring the bright ray’s from her view as she made the short walk towards her car. A fitting end to a horrible day, actually in retrospect the whole week had been terrible, starting with the case in Canada. Ninety-three victims, one man, and she still couldn’t wrap her mind around why and maybe that was for the best. She didn’t need to know why, for the crime was to gruesome to even comprehend.

Before she could stray to other thoughts a familiar deep voice spoke, “Baby girl, you ok?”

Slowly she turned around plastering a smile on her face trying to give nothing away, “Of course handsome why wouldn’t I be.”

He could see the worry that she barely concealed, laced with concern for their two falling teammates, but there was something more, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on that flashed in her eyes before it to was pushed away, concealed behind a mask.

“They’ll be fine Pen, nothing a little time won’t heal.”

Penelope sighed, “How can you be so sure Derek? I mean for Reid yea that’s true, but Hotch…”

“Will be fine and take it one day at a time,” he finished for her hoping that it would reassure her in some little way.

“I’m not so sure,” Penelope said softly.

            “How do you mean?”

“His family has been all but taking from him, Derek even the strongest man has a breaking point. There’s no guarantee Hotch is going to come back the same man,” Penelope explained her voice a little strained.

“And there’s no guarantee that he won’t,” Derek answered shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “Besides what ever happens will face it as a team, together.”

Penelope sighed again not wanting to argue the point, “I know Derek. I just… it’s just been a long few days to much has happened. I guess I’m just worried is all.”

He could tell that there was something more to it than just the last case and Hotch and Reid’s hospitalization, something that went deeper.

An idea popped into his mind, “How about I come over, some take out, a movie just the two of us? We haven’t done that in a long time.”

The indecision was clearly written in her eyes and it troubled him to realize that they had grown so far apart that she had to stop and think about the answer. He wasn’t sure when they had lost each other, when had they grown so far apart that spending time together had to be thought about and not readily excepted.

Softly she answered, “Maybe another time, right now I just need sometime alone to think.”

“Of course I understand, but the offer is still good if you change your mind. Doesn’t matter anytime,” Derek returned put out that she had turned him down.

Penelope saw the flash of hurt before he covered it making sure to flash her a brief smile to show that he understood. Unfortunately it only served to make her feel awful. But right now she just wanted to be alone something she was good at.

“I’ll see you later Derek, you take it easy,” Penelope said turning to go.

“Pen?” he called and when she turned to look back at him, “call when you get home. At least I’ll know you’re safe.”

A small smile tugged at her ruby lips, “I will handsome goodnight.”

“Goodnight beautiful,” he replied watching her walk away.

Once he saw her get into Esther, Derek turned to go his heart heavy with worry, yet he felt like he missed something, some crucial piece that she didn’t say. True they hadn’t been as close over the past year as they had been, but that didn’t mean he didn’t care, that the feelings he kept hidden weren’t still as strong as ever, now more so than ever. Shaking his head, Derek turned back towards the building figuring a few hours of mindless paperwork would take his mind off of everything.

‘Beside she had Kevin what would she need me for anyway,’ he thought pushing the down button on the elevator.

Resting her head against the steering wheel, Penelope let out a heavy sigh. Part of her wished she had accepted Derek’s offer that right now, alone was the last thing she wanted to be. But she hadn’t and even though he had said the offer was a standing one she couldn’t bring herself to call him back. Too much had happened, walls built up that held her heart captive now to keep out the pain. She figured she’d always be alone Kevin confirmed that when he took that job and left her and now the only person she had left she pushed away out of fear. Shaking her head Penelope started up her car and drove unsure of where she would end up.

Now on with the show err story

Sun light filtered through the blinds, shinning into Penelope’s eyes causing her to stir and cautiously open them only to close them rapidly again. Slowly she sat up stretching her back muscles trying to work the kinks out from sleeping on the couch all night. Glancing at the clock she lets out a string of curse words when she notices that it was pushing ten. She made for the bathroom thinking that getting ready would be the better choice. While the warm water filled her bath, she slipped her I-Pod into the speaker set and pushed random before stripping and sidling down into the warm rose scented water. As the sounds of a guitar filled her bathroom, a male voice started to sing.

I think I’ve walked too close to love

And now I’m falling in

There’s so many things this weary soul can’t take

Maybe you just caught me by surprise

The first time that I looked into your eyes

A smile graced her lips as she listened to the words being sung. In a way they made her think about Derek and the first time they met. How that first Baby girl had caught her by surprise. The way his eyes had changed when she told him that she had been called worst. There had been a connection between the two, though she couldn’t put her finger on what kind.

There’s a life in inside of me

That I can feel again

It’s the only thing that takes me

Where I’ve never been

I don’t care if I lost everything that I have known

It don’t matter where I lay my head tonight

Your arms feel like home

Feel like home

In truth his arms was the only place she had ever felt safe, besides her parents, were she felt like someone really cared about her just the way she was with no changes. She knew she loved him just the way he was that would never change. Though she worried about him, knowing that he took risks and put his life in danger one to many times. But that was why she loved him, he wouldn’t back down with out a fight especial if his family was involved and that meant his BAU family as well. She just wished she knew if he felt the same way.

This life ain’t the fairy tale we both though it would be

But I can see your smiling face as it’s staring back at me

I know we both see these changes now

I know we both understand somehow

She had giving up on fairy tales a long time ago, knowing that they never came true. Yet, she wished that one day her prince charming would ride in a save the day. She chuckled at that thought and could see both JJ and Emily grinning at her, telling her that she had her own prince charming if she would just tell him. She knew they had been through so many changes together, Carl Buford for one and Battle for another, both making her shiver and push those thoughts away. They understood each other better than most. They were closer than most.

There’s a life in inside of me

That I can feel again

It’s the only thing that takes me

Where I’ve never been

I don’t care if I lost everything that I have known

It don’t matter where I lay my head tonight

Your arms feel like home

They feel like home

(hold on, you’re home to me)

The one place she could go to for comfort and peace. The arms she could turn to when the nightmares got to bad. He was her peace and comfort and she was his. That thought brought a smile to her face as the last lines of the song played.

There’s a life inside of me

That I can feel again

It’s the only thing that takes me

Where I’ve never been

I don’t care if I lost everything that I have know

It don’t matter where I lay my head tonight

Your arms feel like home

They feel like home

Three doors down

Album: Three doors down

Truth be told he was home to her. That realization hit her like a ton of bricks, making her stop and think about the man she had loved for so long. At that moment Kevin’s words from last night came back to her.

“The same for you, Pen. You deserve a good man, even if he’s to blind to see it,” Kevin say’s before leaning in to kiss her cheek.

Did he see something that she had missed for so long? Could Derek really have the same feelings for her? She wasn’t so sure. Granted they were friends, best friends even, but she didn’t think he could really feel the same. She was so far out of his league. She wasn’t the type of woman Derek Morgan went for. Shaking her head she banished those thoughts, pulled the plug on the bath tub, stood and finished with a quick shower.

Drying herself off, her thoughts wandered towards the song again, she knew she would always love him that would never change. She just hoped one day she would get enough courage together and actually tell him, regardless of the consequences, that she loved him, that she needed him, and that he was home to her.

Meanwhile, Derek had been up for a few hours, had gone for his morning run with Clooney, after stretching out the kinks in his back. His thoughts ran through the last case again, and his brush with death at the hands of that psycho Foyet made him realize that he couldn’t hide his feelings for Penelope anymore. He knew he didn’t stand much of a chance with her, not if she stayed with Kevin and he didn’t want to see her hurt. He knew she would be safe with him, he hoped she would be at least, and he’d rather see she happy with someone who loved her, than alone and unhappy. He just wished that person was him.

For that reason he had pulled away, gave her and Kevin both some space. Not wanting to be the reason they didn’t make it. But last night proved to him how much he missed having his Baby girl around, how much he missed the simple things they had done together. Their movie nights when the case load would slow, the bantering that had come to mean so much to him, the warm hugs she would give him when she knew he needed it and the closeness they shared.

That was why her acceptance of lunch that afternoon surprised him more than he let on, though he was pleased she had. He hoped they would get back to where they once were. A plan started to form in his mind, one that would have them spending the whole day together. Glancing at his watch, he noticed that it was pushing eleven. Picking up his cell phone he pushed speed dial and waited.

Penelope had just walked out of the bathroom when she heard her cell ringing. A smile formed, as she recognized the tone.

“Good morning handsome. How’d you sleep?” Penelope grinned as she walked back into her room.

“Morning Baby girl,” he replied hearing her voice made his smile, “terribly. Remind me never to sleep on the couch again, gives me a back ache.”

Laughter floated through the phone, “Poor baby need me to kiss it and make it all better?”

“Yes I would,” Derek answered playfully. Thought he wouldn’t mind or object to her kissing him.

“Well we’ll have to see about that,” Penelope teased looking through her wardrobe.

The image’s that came to mind had him groaning silently, thankful that they were on the phone and not in person.

“So what do you say we spend the day together, instead of just lunch? Unless you have other plans for tonight,” Derek asked hopeful.

“Sounds wonderful Hot stuff, it’s been to long since we hung out together. I’ve missed it,” Penelope answered excitedly.

She had missed him the last few months and the time they’d spend together even if it was just as friends. She had noticed the distance between them for a while and hoped that they could regain the closeness they once shared.

He could hear the smile in her voice making his own grow. “Glad to hear it Goddess. So you’ll be ready by twelve?”

“Of course, ready and waiting for you sweet cheek’s,” she laughed knowing her words held a double meaning.

“Really, ready and waiting hum now that would be sight,” Derek teased, as images of her lying in his bed waiting for him, ran through his mind.

A shiver ran down her spine at his words, “You have no idea handsome, the kind of thoughts that are running though my mind right now.”

Derek laughed a deep full body laugh that had her laughing right along though her thoughts were filled with some very x-rated images.

‘If you only knew how much I would love to have you right now Baby girl,’ aloud he says “you’ll have to tell me some of those thoughts sometime Baby girl maybe we could play them out.”

A nervous laugh bubbled up as she asked, “So what do you have planned for us today, my vision of chocolaty goodness?”

“That’s something you will have to wait and see about baby girl,” Derek laughed, “until then my Goddess you will have to wonder.”

“Not fair sugar,” she pouts “how am I to know what to wear then?”

“Comfortably and warmly,” Derek proved not giving anything away.

Sighing dramatically Penelope said, “Fine since I won’t get anything out of you, when will you be here?”

“In less than an hour, I just need to hop in the shower and I’ll be on my way.”

A shiver ran down her spine at his mention of a shower, as a mental image of him standing under the spray, water running down his body, flashed through her mind.

When she didn’t respond, Derek began to wonder were her thoughts were, “What’s going through that beautiful mind of yours?”

Pulled from her little fantasy at his voice, Penelope tried to think of what to say, “Nothing you need to know about sweet cheeks. So I’ll see you in, what thirty minutes?”

“Give or take,” he answered heading for the bathroom.

“All right then I guess I’ll see you when you get here.”

“You bet baby girl,” he answered looking forward to the time they would spent together.

“Well I better let you go, so you can shower I’ll see you in a bit angel,” Penelope replied, as she pulled a pair of well worn jeans out of her closet.

“See you a bit baby girl,” he said hanging up.

Twenty five minutes later there came a knock on her door. Slowly she made her way over not wanting to seem too eager. The sight that met her eyes made her knees go weak; thankfully the door gave her the support she needed to stay up right. Standing her in doorway casually leaning up against the frame was one Derek Morgan, dressed in a pair of faded denim jeans that hugged him in all the right places, and a dark green long sleeve shirt that was just tight enough. Simple, yet to Penelope he looked like a God come down off Mt. Olympus.

“Hey gorgeous, so you going to tell me where we’re going, or is it still a secret,” Penelope said slowly looking over her chocolate god trying to remember to breath. ‘Stop it Penelope this isn’t a date. It’s just two friends spending the day together like old times.’

When the door opened Derek’s breath caught in his throat. His baby girl stood before him in a pair of blue denim jeans that hugged all her curves and a rose printed top that gave him just a peek of her cleavage with her blonde hair pulled back into a tight French twist, leaving just a few wisps of hair to frame her face. Simple red frames covered her eyes her make up simply done. Even casual, she looked beautiful to him.

Her voice pulled him out of his thoughts as his eyes travelled up toward her eyes, a big smile creasing his face, “It’s still a secret baby girl, all I can tell you is that lunch is first. Are you ready?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be handsome,” she answered turning around to grab her wallet and key’s.

After locking her door she felt Derek put a hand on the small of her back leading her towards of all things his motorcycle, and two helmets sitting on the seat waiting for them.

“What do you have up your sleeve Derek Morgan?” She asked turning towards him eyes brows raised.

Grinning mischievously Derek answered, “Well it’s a beautiful day, so I thought a nice ride would be a good idea. You have any objections?”

‘To being pressed tightly against you and holding on for dear life to the one man I can never get enough of, never,’ she thinks but say’s “of course not Hot stuff, I’m glad I picked jeans instead of the skirt.”

“Good to hear baby girl,” Derek said handing her a helmet.

A perfect cloudless day, just warm enough that you didn’t need a jacket, but cool enough to wear long sleeves. Ideal conditions for a bike ride, which was what Penelope thought as she wrapped her arms tight around Derek’s waist. Little shivers of delight running through her body as he pushing the motorcycle towards their destination each bump sending her up against his back. All too soon he pulls to a stop out side a quaint little diner allowing her to get off first and giving her the pleasure of looking him over from behind.

He turns to her seeing the huge smile on her face, he shakes his head his own smile widening, “Come on silly girl let’s get some lunch,” he says taking her hand in his.

They find a booth near the window and settled in. A comfortable silence falls over them as they look over the menu.

“So what’s good?” Penelope asked peeking over the menu.

“Pretty much everything though I haven’t been here in awhile,” came his reply.

Once their order was place Derek sat back and watched as Penelope took a sip of her tea, enjoying her company greatly.

“So how are you dealing with… what happened?” Penelope asked broaching the subject that she knew would be the hardest, but wanting to know if he was all right.

She still remembered the haunted look in his eyes from last night. She had cursed herself many times for not going to him, to comfort him in his time of need. She had been scared that he wouldn’t want her there especially after the last few months of only talking about work and not much else.

A dark shadow crossed his face, “A bit better. Though the whole thing has made me re-evaluate my life and who I want in it.”

She reached across the table, taking his hand in hers, “I do hope I’m one of those people.”

“Of course you are Goddess. I couldn’t see a future with out you in it, you’re apart of my life,” he answered staring intently into her dark brown eyes, his fingers caressing her hand.

He wanted to tell her right then how much she really meant to him; how he didn’t think he could survive with out her. She was his life line to hope and beauty, a way for him to keep his sanity when the job started to get a little tough.

She swallowed at the intense look in his eyes, seeing so many emotions playing behind those dark orbs that she didn’t know what to say. She was saved from having to say anything when the waitress came with there order.

They ate in silence for a little while before Derek asked the question he wasn’t sure he wanted an answer to.

“So how are you and Kevin doing?”

“Well… uhmm we kinds of,” she paused not sure how to say it.

Derek took that moment to say, “You don’t have to tell me. I mean it’s private, something between you and him.” He mentally smacked himself for being so lame, ‘Smooth Morgan, real smooth just push her into the arms of another man.’

“Actually Kevin and I decided that we’d be better as friends than anything else. It’s not that I didn’t love him; it was just not the way it should’ve been, or with whom” she answered glancing up at him.

He tried to cover the relief he felt at her answer. He would get the chance to show her how much she meant to him, he just had to get a few things clarified.

“I’m sorry to hear that baby girl,” truly he wasn’t, “are you okay with it?”

A slow smile spread across her face, “Yeah actually I am I mean, I’ve known for awhile that it wouldn’t work out. I just never knew how to tell him.”

A comfortable silence settled over the pair, as they finished their lunch. A few times Derek would look over at her when she wasn’t looking, studying her profile.

“Is there something on your mind sugar, because you keep looking at me like, you haven’t seen me in years?”

Derek grinned, “Just admiring the view.”

Penelope blushed, but still managed to reply, “Flattery will get you everywhere hot stuff.”

Letting a deep laugh go Derek regarded her a moment his eyes serious, “Then I will have to flatter you a little more Goddess.” He then motioned towards her plate, “You finished? We still have other plans for today.”

She nodded, “So are you going to tell me where we’re going next, my sexy profiler?”

“Not a chance Mama,” he responded taking her hand in his and pulling her along.

After much protest from Penelope on who was paying for lunch, which of course Derek did, they headed back towards his bike and soon they were on their way towards their next destination.

This time Penelope pressed a little closer the wind biting into her skin, making her shiver as a colder blast suddenly blew in. When they finally stopped she rubbed her hands together trying to get them warm again as she waited for Derek to dismount.

He frowned at the sight before him and drew her into his warm embrace making sure that her hands where trapped between their bodies. Moments passed before he finally pulled back cupping her face in his warm hand.

“If you’re to cold we can go home baby,” he said caressing her face. He almost lost his control when he watched her lean into his hand, turning a simple caress into something more intimate.

She leaned into his touch, briefly closing her eyes at the sensations running though her body. Finally she responded, “I’ll be fine handsome honest. Just got a bit chilled is all.”

He nodded, took her hand again, and turned her so she faced the area he wanted her to see.

“A carnival!” she exclaimed happily before turning back towards him, “I haven’t been to a carnival in years. What made you think if this?”

He smiled “Well I figured a carnival would be a nice touch, before we head back to my place for a late dinner and a few movies.”

Standing on her tip toes she placed a soft kiss to his cheek whispering, “It sounds like a little piece of heaven my angel.”

With his heart in his throat Derek glanced down at Penelope, going from her eyes to her full red lips his mind at war with his heart. He settled for pulling her into a warm hug, resting his face in the crook of her neck breathing in her perfume.

They stood close for a few minutes before Penelope slowly pulled away, taking his hand in hers as they headed towards the entrance. Neither seeing that the weather had started to change as clouds rolled in from the west.

After a few rides Penelope finally convinced Derek to ride the Ferris wheel with her. Once they got in Derek put his arm around her shoulders having her snuggle close to him. They had come to a stop at the top, Penelope looking out over the landscape.

“You know sitting up here everything looks so peaceful and still. You would never guess what people could do to one another. I wish I could capture this moment and keep it forever. It’s just beautiful.”

“That it is baby girl,” Derek replied brushing a strand of hair from her face.

She turned to him, her breath catching in her throat at the look of passion in his eyes, “You’re... your not looking at the landscape Derek.”

He chuckled, “I wasn’t talking about it either darlin.”

Slowly he leaned in, again his eyes going from hers to her lips intending on kissing her. Unfortunately, the operator chooses that moment to start the ride again, breaking the moment.

Penelope settled back against the seat trying to calm her racing heart, ‘Was he about to kiss me’, she asked herself not daring to look back at him.

She shook that idea out of her head as their carriage came to a stop and they got out.

“So what’s next Goddess?” he asked taking her hand in his again.

She shivered at the contact, trying to answer, “How about some games?”

He smiled and pulled her towards one of the games. She watched as he threw ball after ball knocking down the pins almost every time. He had even given her a few chances.

In the end he turned to her a large stuffed rose in his hand, “For my lady.”

Blushing she took the offered flower, “Thank you my prince.”

They played a few more games Penelope winning a small stuffed wolf and a penguin. Afterward they went to sit down a stick of cotton candy between them.

Penelope had pulled a rather large chunk off and was waving her hand around as she spoke, “Thank you handsome for today, it’s been so wonderful I’d hate…” she stopped feeling a hand take her wrist.

She looked over at Derek who had, had enough of the candy waving around in his face, decided to take matters into his own hands. Slowly he brought the sugary goodness to his lips taking most of it in the first bite, his eyes never leaving Penelope’s. With some still left he brought her fingers back to his lips to lick off the rest of the sugar, then sucking her sticky fingers into his mouth, his tongue swirling around her fingers.

Penelope swallowed hard. She wasn’t sure what Derek was playing at, but the heat building in his eyes only served to make her shiver again and close her eyes at the sensations running through her body. Her eyes popped open when his lips came in contact with her palm, then her wrist before she knew it he had pulled her close and was leaning towards her, before their lips could meet a few drops of rain landed between them braking the moment again.

A low growl came from Derek as he pulled her up with him, “I think we better go…” he pointed towards the sky.

She nodded allowing him to pull her along behind him. Unfortunately they both were quite wet by the time they made it to his bike. Without much talking they pulled their helmets on and were off, Penelope hold tightly to her favourite chocolate God.

By the time they made it back to Derek’s place they both were drench. He pulled to a stop outside the garage, cursing himself for forgetting the remote, they both got off and headed for the door besides the garage door and just as Derek put the key into the lock the clouds opened up and rain started to pour down harder.

He pulled a giggling Penelope into the garage then hit the button for the door and ran back out into the down pour to retrieve his bike, while Penelope used the keys to get into his apartment and retriever a few towels. When she returned the sight before her almost made her knees go weak, Derek Morgan his back towards her shirtless water dripping down his well toned back. When he turned around the chill she felt disappeared, being replaced by a heat that she hoped would never die.

Slowly he walked towards her every muscle in his body moving, his jeans hugging him that much closer because of the rain giving her imagination enough fuel for a hell of a lot of fantasy. Before she knew it he stood in front of her and all she could think was that she envied that small drop of water that ran down his neck towards his chest.

She felt a warm hand on her hip as the other came up to cup her cheek pulling her face towards his, “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time baby girl,” and at last their lips met in a slow passionate kiss.

Forgetting about the towels Penelope let them fall to the ground as she wrapped her arms around his neck drawing him closer. His tongue begged for entrance into the warm cavern of her mouth, which she granted on a moan, feeling his body press close to hers. A shudder of pleasure ran through her body as the hand on her hip circled her waist the other started to blindly undo the pins holding her hair up. Once her hair came down he ran his fingers through the wet strands pulling her face that much closer.

When they finally broke apart, the need for air getting too much, he still held her close not wanting her to move just yet. He felt her shiver and wrapped both arms around her body sharing what little body heat he had.

After a few minutes Penelope got her voice back, “Handsome, not that I’m complaining, but why?”

She looked at him with weary dark eyes, afraid that he didn’t mean what she thought he did.

Leaning his forehead against hers he spoke his voice thick with passion, “Because Penelope I love you and I’m tried of pretending that I don’t. I don’t want to see you with anyone else. I want you to be with me.”

She stared into his eyes unsure of herself. She wanted to say it back, she wanted to shout it from the tallest building in Quantico that she was in love with him to, but she held back.

“How… I mean are you sure. It’s just that this is a bit unexpected I never thought, I mean I wished, but we were friends, are friends. I just never expected…” her words were cut off as Derek slanted his mouth over hers again effectively cutting off any more words.

This kiss was slower almost like he wanted to devour her whole, starting with her lips. She moaned low in her throat giving him the access he needed to deepen the kiss as his hands started to roam her back, up into her hair and back down to pull her pelvis that much closer to him letting her feel what she did to him. She gasped and arched her back pressing herself closer almost to the point of melding the two of them together, and giving him access to the column of her throat, which he readily took advantage of.

“De… Derek we should get… oh… out of these wet clothes,” Penelope stuttered as her nails dug furrows into his shoulders.

He nodded into her throat, giving her one last nip of his teeth before staring back up into her eyes. He pulled back and heard her whimper at the lost of contact. Bending down he picked up one of the towels, then motioned for her to turn around which she did.

He wrapped the towel around her hair making sure it held tight before leaning in to whisper in her ear, “Get changed I’ll be in, in a few we need to talk,” then gave the ear lope a nip before sending her off.

Twenty minutes later Penelope sat on his couch dressed in one of his t-shirts, legs drawn up underneath her waiting on Derek to come back from his bedroom. Minutes later he emerged dressed in boxers and a t-shirt. He came to sit next to her putting his hand on her exposed thigh.

She glanced down at the hand and then back up into the eyes of the one man who could cause her so much heart ache.

“Derek,” she did away with the pet names going strait for honesty, “did you mean it?”

Cupping her cheek in his hand he raised her face to look into her eyes, “Every last word of it.”

“You sure?” she asked wanting to be totally clear before giving into the fantasy.

“As sure as I’ve ever been about anything Penelope, I don’t want to loose your friendship, but I can’t sit by and watch other men date you. Lynch was enough. I need you in my life forever,” he answered thumb grazing her lips.

“Forever,” she squeaked hardly believing her ears.

“If you’ll have me,” he replied grinning.

This time she leaned forward and captured his lips with her leaning them back against the arm of the couch. She could feel his gun callused hands on her back were he had pushed the hem of the shirt up, running over her back making her shiver.

Slowly she pulled back to stare into his dark eyes seeing the passion and want, but most importantly the love he held for her, “I love you Derek, you’re arms are home to me.”

New one shot story "Heaven was needing a Hero"

Hey everyone heres a quick little story that just came to me. Now i must warn you, you may need tissues when reading this. I hope you like it.

I dont own anything by the way neather the show Criminal Minds nor the song "Heaven was needed a hero" Which was sand by Jo Dee Messina  Let me know what you think.

A warm summer’s brezze blew across the field, rusling the trees and blowing her blonde hair around. She kneeled at the grave stone in front of her, tears making tracks down her pale cheeks as she laid the flowers down.

“I miss you so much it’s a challenge to just get out of bed most days. It’s hard with you gone,” she whispered the wind taking her words away.

A hand came to rest on her shoulder trying to give comfort to the greiving, “It’s hard to believe he’s been gone four years all ready. It seems like just yesterday we were going out on a case, chasing the bad guys, saving the day. He was one of a kind that’s for sure,” Emily said looking down at the gray tomestone.

She nodded no words are able to come forth tears chocked her voice as she replays one of the last time they had seen each other in her mind.

I came by today to see you
I had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I'd have held you and never let go

“Enter the Goddess is ready to take any requests you have,” Penelope exclaimed a smile lighting her features when he walks though her dor.

“Any requests huh,” Derek said arching an eye brow mischivously, “I may have one you’ll like bady girl.”

“Oh really handsome well let me hear it,” Penelope grinned looking him up and down as if she was sizing him up.

“How about dinner tonight just the two us.”

“Humm,” she tapped one red lacquered nail against her chin as if thinking, “I think I can fit you in though it will have to be a short dinner my husband wouldn’t like me going out with other men.”

Derek just shook his head and pulled her from the chair and into his arms, “Damn strait I wouldn’t like you with another other men,” he growled capturing her lips in a passionate kiss.

When the need to breath got to much Derek pulled back just a bit to tangle one hand in her hair the other wrapped around her waist holding her closer.

“We should really stop this honey bun. What if someone sees,” Penelope breathed leaning closer to him.

“Don’t care, missed you to much,” he responded nibbling her neck causing a gasp to leave her mouth.

“Derek you know…” her words are cut off as his lips cover hers in a searching kiss.

Slowing they break apart again leaning their foreheads together, “So dinner right, in about an hour.”

She nods as he gives her one final kiss before turning to go a huge smile on his face.

It's kept me awake nights, wondering
Lie in the dark, just asking why
I've always been told
You won't be called home
Until it's your time

They never made it to dinner JJ had come rushing towards Hotch’s office an urge case that needed their expertise.

“He’s watching over you, Pen always,” came JJ’s voice from her right.

Wiping at the tears on her cheek she trys to speak, “I know it’s just so hard he… he was such a big part of my life it’s hard to live without him.”

I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you

“You’ll never be without him he’s in your heart always,” Emily said trying to give her comfort.

Penelope just nodded. She knew they were right he would always be there, but he’d promised to never leave her side that he’d always be there for her. A promise they both knew he would never be able to fully keep.

“Oracle of all things knowing and knowable put your requests in now,” Penelope answered on the third ring.

“Penelope are you sitting down?” came Hotch’s deep voice.

“Funny question Hotch, what’s the matter.”

“Penelope there’s been an accident Derek, he’s been hurt,” Hotch answered trying to keep the emotions out of his voice.

“Oh God,” she breathed, “is he all right. Please tell me he’s all right Aaron I, I can’t loose him.”

“He’s bad Penelope,” Hotch said a under currant of fear running though his voice.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can, please don’t let him go until I get there,” Penelope begged already grabbing for her purse.

“We’ll try,” was his response before they hung up.

Penelope thanked God that the case had been close, but also sent up a prayer for his life, “Please God I cant loose him, he’s my life he’s all that I have. Don’t take him from me when there are still so many things we have to do together, so many words I still have to tell him.”

The drive went by so fast and before she knew it Penelope stood in the waiting room. She saw Hotch standing beside a wall head down he’s usually stoic features crumbling, partially covered in blood, Emily talking to him in hush whispers trying to get him to go clean up. Spencer pacing the floor, only God knew what was running though his mind at that time. JJ sat with her head buried in her hands, but Penelope could tell that she was crying. David sat next to her staring off into space not even trying to cover the despair in his eyes.

“Is there any word,” came Penelope’s quiet voice.

Hotch looked up trying to school his features, “He’s asking for you.”

Penelope nodded and let Hotch take her back. She never liked hospital’s they always smelled funny, to sterile and bland for her liking.

They came to a stop outside a curtained off bed and Hotch turned to look at her, “They say he doesn’t have long maybe an hour if that. I’m sorry Penelope.”

She nodded as tears started to pool in her eyes her worst nightmare coming true. Slowly she pushed the stale white curtain aside and there laid her chocolate Adonis tube’s coving his body. He looked pale to her gone was the superman she had always known. Slowly she walked over to him taking his right hand in hers feeling the cold chill that had set in.

She watched as he eyes fluttered open and he smiled, “Hey baby girl what brings you here?”

“Well it seems that my husband has gone and gotten himself shot. I couldn’t just sit at him and not come to see him,” Penelope answered trying to hold back the tears.

“Oh,” he began trying to fight back the pain, “I’m sorry baby I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

“I know that handsome you just have to play the hero, but that’s why I married you, that’s why I love you.”

“I love you to Penelope you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I wouldn’t change what we had for the world. Please don’t,” he pauses as a spasm of pain shot though him.

“Save you strength Derek please,” Penelope said as a few tears slipped down her cheeks.

“No I have to tell you this baby girl. From the first moment I laid eyes on you I knew that you were different that there was something between us even back then. I could never have explained it, but you gave me the light in my dark life. You kept me going never letting me fall into that dark whole I had put myself in all those years ago. I,” he coughs and winces before calming enough to continue. “I don’t think I would have been able to make it with out you brightness in my life. You saved me and gave me a reason to go on. I’ll love you forever Penelope Diane Morgan. I’m just sorry that I.”

She stopped him then not wanting to hear it just yet. “You saved me to Derek I thought I’d never love again that I’d live my life alone. But you changed that I’ll always be grateful for that no matter what happens. You kept me going to showed me that not everyone judges people by how they look. You taught me that I could be me and not have to apologize for that. I love you forever Derek James Morgan no matter what happens.”

Penelope stood and leaned over to capture his lips with hers in a slow passionate kiss the last they would ever share.

Cause heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you

A little hand tugged at her skirt, Penelope looked down and a sad smile crossed her face.

“Momma is Daddy in heaven?” little Derek asked with eyes just like his namesake.

Penelope gathered her son close the only thing she had left, “Yes honey he is, but he looks down on us keeping us safe.”

“Will we see him again?”

“Of course angel heaven needed one of its hero’s and your Daddy was one,” Penelope answered looking up towards the sky as a gentle breeze brushes by the cheek.

You're not alone an M/G story

.

Nightmares! Webster’s defines them as a frightening dream, or any frightening experience. For, Penelope Garcia that was the understatement of the year, nightmares were a regular occurrence in her life given her line of work. She couldn’t out run them even if she tried. Sometimes they would let her sleep but only rarely. Tonight was no different. The nightmares came as soon as she closed her eyes.

She had hoped that exhaustion would keep the nightmares at bay. No suck luck! Not even an hour after settling down to sleep the horrendous dreams invaded her subconscious causing her to bolt upright in bed. Running a shaking hand though her hair, she tries to calm her breathing and return her heart beat to normal. Knowing that sleep would elude her again a sigh slips out as she climbs out of bed and pads lightly into the living room. She switches on the lamp beside the couch before flopping down and picking up the remote to flip though channels. Her thoughts stray to the nightmare. Knowing that this time he had been lucky, but what about next time. Would he be just as lucky, or will she lose him forever.

Her thoughts wander towards that evening. The last case had been hard on everyone, two in particular and when Emily suggested that everyone go out for drinks to de-stress no one complained. About an hour after they arrived Kevin showed up. It wasn’t that Penelope didn’t want him there. She just really wanted a quite night with the team so they could lick their wounds in peace. The night had taken a distinct turn after that.

The laughter seemed to fade a bit and the conversations drew to a close. Penelope turned to Kevin, ready to ask him something, when she noticed a frown on his face.

“Is there something wrong Kevin, you’ve been quite since you arrived?” she asked watching him closely.

Kevin turned to her and shrugged saying, “No everything’s fine, just lost in my thoughts is all.”

Penelope watched him for a while never seeing the look that passed between Emily and JJ. For the first time that night she wished Kevin had just gone home instead of finding her.

Turning back, Penelope scanned the dance floor, her eyes searching for, Derek. When she finally found him, a frown creased her face, for her Chocolate Adonis was standing at the bar nursing a beer.

Penelope leaned closer to Emily and asked, “Why’s Derek up at the bar?”

Emily had turned to look at Derek’s profile before answering, “Your guess is as good as mine, Pen. I do know this last case had been pretty hard on him.”

Penelope sighed, she knew the moment they came home that there was something different about her Chocolate God, she could feel the tension radiate off him. Making her wish she had talked to him before they left. She glanced back at Kevin, who sat watching the dance floor intently. Again she wished he wasn’t there making her feel terrible. Two hours later Penelope looked out at the dance floor again noticing that JJ had managed to drag Reid out on the floor trying to teach him a few moves. It made her smile to see the two of them having fun. Glancing, back at the table her eyes caught Hotch and Emily sitting close discussing different topic’s, while making eyes at one another thinking no one was watching. David had left an hour ago calming he was tired. Lastly, Penelope’s eyes sought out Derek who hadn’t moved from his stance at the bar. Even after a few good looking women had tried they very hardest. Worry creased her face, she wanted to go to him, to talk and find out what was going on in his head.

Her breath caught in her throat when he turned and started for the table. She could see the pain and even the guilt in his eyes before it was closed off.

“I’m going to call it a night guy’s. I’ll see you at work on Monday,” Derek said on approach.

As he turned to leave, his eyes came to rest on his baby girl and a pang of regret flashed though his eyes, which she had caught. Quickly, before anyone could stop her, Penelope excused herself, at this point she didn’t care what Kevin thought or would say. Her best friend needed her. She caught up with him just outside the door.

“Handsome, wait up,” Penelope yelled.

Derek stopped, he hadn’t expected her to come after him, not with Kevin here, but he had hoped she would. Before he could say anything Penelope wrapped her arms around him pulling him close, trying to comfort him, and maybe chase away a few demons. He closed his eyes glad she had come after him, grateful that she cared so much about him. He loved the way she felt in his arms, how her body fit just perfectly to his. At that thought another pang of regret flashed though him.

Pulling back a little, Derek looked down at her, a tired smile gracing his features, “You should get back in there before Kevin thinks something’s going on.” However, he doesn’t make a move to let her go.

Penelope just shakes her head and smiles, “Don’t worry about him, handsome. I came to see if you were all right and if you needed me.”

Her smile tugged at his heart, as her words sink in, making him wish that things were different. “I’m all right, baby girl. I just have a lot to think about.”

She nods before giving him another tight hug, knowing that he truly wasn’t all right, but that he was putting up a brave front for her.

“You’re not alone, handsome. I’m here for you, never forget that,” she mumbles into his chest.

Running his fingers though her hair, Derek pull’s back a little so he can look into her eyes, “I know that baby girl. Now you go have some fun I’ll call when I get home. I promise!”

Slowly, Penelope steps out of his embrace looking up at him, her feelings warring inside her. She loves this man, more than words can say. She just wasn’t sure of his feelings. Sure they had said as much after she was shot, but she wasn’t sure the way he meant it.

“You better, because I’ll be waiting for you to call, hot stuff,” she returns a smile playing on her lips.

She watches as he waves goodbye, her heart troubled. She had known for awhile that her feelings for Derek had changed. Penelope knew that she didn’t love Derek as a friend or even a brother, no her feelings had gone strait to something more, she was in love with him. Unfortunately, she just didn’t know how to tell him, thinking that it would ruin the friendship they had built up over the years. She also didn’t know how to explain to Kevin that, while she didn’t regret getting into a relationship with him, he just wasn’t the man she loved. She didn’t want to lead him on, or hurt him, after all Kevin had been so good to her and she still cared for him, but just as a friend.

Sighing Penelope made her way back inside, stopping close to the entrance, just watching the rest of the team. Her eyes came to a stop on Kevin, who was sitting at the table toying with his drink and not really paying much attention to anything, slowly she made her way over to him. Glancing over at Hotch and Emily, she smiles seeing that they were still wrapped in their own little world. Taking her seat next to Kevin, she takes a slow drink, her mind on so many other things.

She feels Kevin put his hand on her shoulder, “You ready to go, Penelope?”

She turn’s to him and just nods, before rising again to leave.

She leans over the table gaining the attention of Hotch and Emily, “I’ll see you both on Monday. Call when you get home, both of you, so I don’t worry.”

Emily nods, as Hotch answers, “Of course, Penelope. You have a good night and get some rest while you’re off this weekend.”

She nods and then turns to search out JJ and Reid, both of whom were still wrapped around each other dancing. Penelope smiles, glad that JJ was starting to have a little fun after the brake up with Will. She was also glad that Spencer was the one she leaned on. Catching their eyes, Penelope waved goodbye, not wanting to break the couple up. She moves towards the door, following Kevin outside.

They near her beloved Esther, when Kevin speaks, “Pen there’s something I need to tell you.”

Penelope turned from unlocking the door, surprise written on her face, “Oh is there something wrong?”

“No I just…” Kevin stopped not sure how to tell her, so he settles for the truth. “I think we’d be better off as friends than lovers, Pen.”

To say that Penelope was shocked was an understatement. You could’ve told her that the world would be invaded by aliens and she wouldn’t have flinched.

Once she found her voice, “Why would you say that? I thought everything was going fine. What changed?”

Running a hand over his face Kevin tried to explain, “Pen, I’ve known for awhile that my feelings have changed. I just was unsure of how to tell you. It’s not that I don’t love you; I do just not that way. You’re an amazing person, caring, and kind, I could go on but I know you wouldn’t want to hear the platitudes. I’m just sorry that it took me so long to tell you.”

A sad smile curved her features as she looks at Kevin, thankful that he was the one to end it. “I’m sorry to Kevin, and your right things have been a little off lately. I hope you find the one for you Kevin and that you’re happy.”

“The same for you, Pen. You deserve a good man, even if he’s too blind to see it,” Kevin said genuinely meaning it before leaning in to kiss her cheek.

A little puzzled by his meaning, Penelope just smiles before saying, “So I’ll see you at work on Monday?”

Kevin just nods, before waving goodbye and walking away. Penelope watched him go, then turned and got in her car, and drove home, her thoughts running a mile a minute in her head. When she arrives home, she drops her stuff on the coffee table behind the couch, making sure her cell phone could be heard. She proceeds to the bathroom; maybe a shower would help her sort out her thoughts. After standing under the spray for fifteen minutes with no success, she finishes up quickly and exits the shower. After dressing she goes back into the living room to check her phone. Only two missed calls, neither from Derek making her frown. Pushing that thought away she dials her voice mail, puts in her code and wait’s.

‘Hey Pen, just got home. You should be getting a call from Hotch in a few minutes. Have a good weekend, oh and may be you, JJ and I can get together sometime this weekend for just a girl’s day. Call me when you get this. Bye,” Emily’s message said.

‘I’m home, Pen. Have a good weekend and I’ll see you on Monday,” was Hotch’s brief message.

Deleting both messages, Penelope makes her way to the kitchen for a bottle of water, before dialing Emily’s number.

“Prentiss!” Emily answers on the third ring.

“Hey hon how’s Sunday brunch sound to you?”

“Sounds prefect! You going to call JJ tonight?” asked Emily grinning into the phone.

Penelope snorted into the phone, “Yea and have the wrath of JJ on me. I don’t think so hon. No I’ll wait until morning. Oh and Em…”

“Yea,” Emily said waiting.

“Tell Hotch good night for me,” Penelope answered laughing.

Emily just groaned into the phone before saying, “So what gave it away?”

“My little secret and don’t worry it’s safe with me. I’ll see you on Sunday Em, have a good night,”

“Thanks Pen. Goodnight,” Emily responded before hanging up.

After hanging up with Emily, Penelope decided that she needed some sleep, though she still worried about Derek who hadn’t called her as of yet, she knew he had to be home by now with it closing in on one in the morning.

After leaving the bar, Derek had driven around, knowing that he wouldn’t get much rest at home. His thoughts are just too troubled with the events of the last case. Most of all he was thinking about his relationship with a certain blonde tech. Derek knew his feeling for Penelope had hanged ever since that fateful night she was shot. But he had waited to long to confess his true feelings. Sure he had told her, that he loved her and she had returned in kind, however he knew she had though he only meant as friends.

But now after everything that had happened with the last case, his thoughts about their relationship, or the lack there of plagued him. That was why he had stayed at the bar, especially after Kevin had showed up. He wanted her to be happy, even if that meant he’d have to step aside and let her be with another man.

Without realizing it Derek had pulled up in front of her apartment and just sat there. He knew she was home with Esther parked in the driveway, he just wasn’t sure if she was alone and he didn’t want to interrupt anything. So he watched as the living room lights turned off and then another came on this one farther back and he knew she was in her bedroom.

Running a tired hand over his face, Derek started his truck and drove off. He knew without his Goddess to chase away the dark thoughts, he wouldn’t be getting much sleep that night. He regretted not saying something early. Reaching his apartment Derek was almost knocked over by his dog, Clooney. After giving his over grown puppy some attention, not to mention food and water, he moved towards his bedroom, maybe a hot shower would help sort out his thoughts.

Ten minutes later, he was sitting on his bed no closer to the peace of mind he so craved. He happened to glace at the clock beside his bed and let out a string of cruses, berating himself for letting it get so late. He knew Penelope would probably yell at him for not calling sooner, but he figured better late then never, even if it was 1:10am in the morning.

Her thoughts are rudely interrupted by the beep from her cell phone. Blindly she reached behind her and grabbed her cell. With shaking hands she pressed a few buttons, entered her code and pressed it to her ear.

“Hey baby girl just checking in with you. I’m sorry it wasn’t sooner, you’re probably busy. I shouldn’t have bothered you. I’ll…” there was a pause and then, “I guess I’ll see you at work. Have a good weekend. Goodnight baby girl.”

Silent tears fell from her eyes after she hung the phone up. She had heard the worry and pain in his voice and it broke her heart to know that she wasn’t there to help him. Without really thinking about what she was doing Penelope pressed her speed dial and waited.

“Morgan!” he answered knowing who was on the other end.

Trying to keep the tears out of her voice she answered, “Hey handsome! What took you so long to call me?”

He could hear the tears in her voice and it made his heart constricted knowing that she was crying because if him. “I’m sorry Goddess I lost track of time. I had been driving around just thinking.”

“Oh!” came the only response.

“Penelope is there something wrong? Did something happen after I left?”

‘Hit the nail on the head why don’t you,’ Penelope thought, before saying, “just worried about you angel and…” she trailed off.

Frustrated, Derek ran a hand over his head knowing that she was keeping something from him, “And what baby girl? You know you can tell me anything.”

“Just bad dreams, that’s all. The last case kind of shook me a little,” Penelope answered, but thought, “almost losing you nearly did me in.”

“I know what you mean darlin’. I’m sorry you had to go through that,” Derek offered, however he was glad she’d been there maybe not in person but on the phone.

“Apart of the job honey nothing you can do about it,” Penelope replied wiping the tears away and leaning back in her couch.

“But still I know the imagines that cross your screen are anything but pleasant. Nightmares are unfortunate by produces of the job,” even to his own ears it sounded lame even for him.

She remained quite a little to long making him think that she might have fallen asleep.

“Baby girl, why don’t you go back to bed and try to get some sleep,” Derek said, stretching out on his couch.

Softly she answers, “I don’t think I can. The nightmare still plays in my head.”

“What was the nightmare about?” Derek questioned though he felt he all ready knew the answer.

‘Almost losing you,’ she thinks fighting back tears before saying, “just the events of the last case that it took a different turn.”

Derek found himself apologizing for the second time that night, “I’m sorry, angel I wish I could’ve been there, maybe chase away the dark thoughts.”

He let the words slip out before he realized what he was saying.

“I know. I wish you were her to handsome. I missed you while you where gone,” Penelope said grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch and snuggling down into it.

Her words brought a smile to his face, making him wish that things were different between them. He hears her yawn and knows she’s starting to relax.

“Are you comfortable, baby girl?”

“Hmm hmm, a little,” Penelope mumble’s tiredly.

“Good now listen to my voice. It’s time for you to get some sleep baby girl and tomorrow we’ll go to lunch.” Derek offers.

“Ok handsome. I’ll see you tomorrow, goodnight,” Penelope answer’s pulling the blanket close around her.

“Goodnight baby girl,” Derek replies, and while closing his phone he whispers into the quite room, “I love you baby girl,” before falling asleep, dreams of Penelope running through his mind.

After pushing end, Penelope whispers, “I love you Derek, always,” then falls asleep herself, no night mare chasing her this time.
